HOWELL, Frances Schumann (1905-1994)
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Frances Schumann was educated at Ohio Wesleyan University, UCLA and Columbia University (M.A.). In 1930 she married artist and educator Youldon Howell and began a long teaching career in the Pasadena public schools (John Muir Jr. College and Pasadena City College). She exhibited widely during her lifetime, often with her husband.

HOWELL, Youldon Chancey (1906-1990)
Born in Boulder, Colorado, Howell settled in Pasadena with his family in 1909 and began painting watercolors, his preferred medium, in the 1920s. After graduating from UCLA, he earned a master's degree from Columbia University in 1930. That year he married Frances Schumann, also a talented artist, and began teaching in the Pasadena schools, continuing to paint landscapes, seascapes and still lifes until his death.
