CZ219 (BG101)-Meissen Teapot

-Meissen Teapot, 1750. [Height: 4-3/4" / Marks: Crossed swords in underglaze blue].-This globular-shaped teapot has a wishbone handle and the brass-hinged cover has a flower bud finial. It is decorated on both sides with "Deutsche Blumen". The borders are of a purple scale design, outlined in gold. Exhibited: Fine Arts Museum San Francisco, 1984/5. [See Syz, p. 414, Nr. 274 for a similar pattern].

 

CZ228 (BG145)-Meissen Coffee Pot

Meissen- Coffee Pot, 1750. [Height: 5 1/2" / Marks: Cross swords in underglaze blue].-Pear-shaped with a wishbone handle, scrolled spout and slightly domed cover with a flower finial; the decoration is "Deutsch Blumen" in monochrome purple. Exhibited: Fine Arts Museum San Francisco, 1984/5.

 


CZ226 (BG130)-Meissen Covered Butter Tub

Meissen-Covered Butter Tub, 1735-1740, [Height: 2 1/2" x Diameter: 4 1/2"; Marks: Crossed swords (dot-period) in underglaze blue inner bottom of tub; markings include "MO", possibly identifying the artist as Carl August Moebius].-The early underglaze blue decoration of this fine Meissen butter tub has an Oriental flavor although the figures are reminiscent of 17th century figures as seen on Dutch and English faience. This model was developed from a 17th or 18th century wooden butter tub. Exhibited: Fine Arts Museum San Francisco, 1984/5.
