BLUMBERG, Ron (born 1908)
California Symbolist Artist
Having studied at the National Academy of Design from 1905-1912, from 1907-1925 American symbolist artist Claude Buck supported himself as a portraitist, painting imaginative compositions of an introspective nature for his own enjoyment, especially drawing upon the themes of the poet Edgar Allan Poe in his work. Born in New York City, Buck taught at the Chicago Art Institute and at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1920-1925. From the mid-1920s on, the artist's work was marked by urban genre scenes and portraiture of renewed importance. Moving to California in the mid-1940s, Buck eventually settled in the coastal community of Santa Barbara.
