SAMUEL HYDE HARRIS (1889-1977)

Sam Hyde Harris was born in Middlesex, England, and immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1904, settling in Los Angeles. He studied at the Art Student's League and with Hanson Puthuff. His early works show a strong influence from Puthuff; his later works develop his own characteristic style and palette. He was a commercial artist throughout his life, as well as an art instructor at the Chouinard Art School. He received numerous awards and universal recognition during more than 40 years of exhibiting in California.
